Bill Gleeson

Fire Safety Engineer

Bill Gleeson is a fire safety engineer and professional fire fighter with over 20 years experience in the broader construction industry.
A registered professional fire safety engineer in Victoria and an Associate of the Institute of Fire Engineers, Bill has worked for Fire Brigades in Operations and Building Fire Safety in both the Northern Territory and Victoria.

This experience provides Bill with a unique understanding of the building approvals process. Importantly combining the role of the Fire Brigade with the details of the legislative process.
With an undergraduate computer science background and ten years as a computer programmer Bill uses state of the art modelling of fire spread and behaviour to drive the development of performance solutions.
In receipt of several awards including the 2007 NTFRS silver axe, 2015 NTFRS professional fire fighter of the year and the 2015 AFAC knowledge and innovation award. Bill is also a recipient of the Humanitarian Overseas Service medal.
A fire safety engineer at Basic Expert Pty Ltd he is a specialist in forensic engineering and fire safety engineering. His current focus is on working with OC’s and OCM’s regarding:

  • Buildings with non-compliant cladding

  • Inappropriate Essential Safety Measures (fire alarm and detection systems, fire rated doors and the like),

  • Developing building rectifications from design, to permits, to construction and providing assistance with litigation

  • Creation of Performance-Based designs for new builds

  • Creation of Expert Reports in post fire and building compliance matters
